I began practicing yoga in 1996 as a way to decrease stress, anxiety, and insomnia. What I discovered was more than the physical & mental benefits, but also a way of life. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1997 and a Master of Science in Student Personnel Administration in 2001, I worked in higher education for 18 years and continued my personal practice. In 2012, I realized I wanted to learn more about the tradition, which led to my enrollment in the 200-Hour Teacher Training at the Himalayan Institute. After completing the program I taught at various studios, through Continuing Education programs, at local churches and libraries, led workshops and seminars, taught private sessions, and even had the pleasure of working with the Niagara University Women’s Soccer Team.
In 2015, I returned to the Institute for the Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist certification, to expand my knowledge of how Ayurveda can assist individuals in finding a balanced state of health. The program truly changed the way I teach (and my life). Learning how to align the practice with the time of day, the seasons, and people’s unique constitutions was a game-changer. Not only did I personally begin to feel more balanced, but I could also see positive results for my students.
Still wanting to learn more, I continued my studies at the Institute in 2019 and completed the 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Certification in January of 2021. In the middle of a pandemic. After 7 months of in-person training, we had to move online. Talk about a transformation! I am forever changed from that experience, and grateful to my amazing colleagues and teachers for their love and support through it all.
I teach yoga, meditation, and ayurvedic lifestyle classes online & locally. My goal is to provide support for the overworked, stressed-out human in the 21st Century. My style is gentle, nourishing, and approachable for all skill levels. Through my knowledge of Ayurveda, I interweave a 5000-year-old philosophy of working with nature to balance the overall health and wellness of each individual, specializing in yoga for anxiety and stress relief.
Growing up near two Great Lakes and the Niagara River, I’ve always been drawn to water. In times of turmoil and contemplation, I often find myself gravitating toward a lake, river, or ocean to find peace and clarity. Leading to the name: Peaceful Waters Yoga.
